Bluebells at Hodnet

Just over a week ago, I visited Hodnet Hall Gardens near Market Drayton in Shropshire. It was a bright (if cool) day, and everything in the garden was coming into life. Hodnet has a series of lakes, with woodland walks around them. In places, the trees were under-planted with bluebells, and I was lucky to be there just as they were at their best…

The light was bright and clear, visibility was good, and there were some lovely reflections on the lakes. The swans were at their most serene…

Hodnet is one of two very impressive gardens close to where I live (the other being Wollerton Old Hall). Both are very special places, so if you’re ever in the area, do try to fit in a visit.

The circular garden – in a few weeks the peonies and roses will add a blast of colour
